What if your child could paint the setting of their favorite story? Or build a robot from a book they just read? In this month’s Creative Corner, we’re turning books into hands-on, screen-free fun at home—using imagination, art supplies, and a little story magic.
🎨 1. Story Scene Collage
Please have your child create a collage using cutouts, crayons, or stickers to recreate a scene from their favorite book.
🖍️ Bonus twist: Ask them to add details that weren’t in the book. What would happen if the forest had floating marshmallows or the castle had wheels?
🧱 2. Build the Main Character (in 3D!)
Using recycled materials (cardboard, pipe cleaners, buttons, foil), help your child design a 3D version of the story’s hero or sidekick.
👀 Tip: Ask questions while building:
“What does this character love?”
“What do they carry in their pocket?”
“What’s their biggest fear?”
✏️ 3. Create a ‘What Happens Next?’ Comic Strip
Let your child draw what happens after the book ends.
Do the characters go on a new adventure? Does the villain open a cupcake shop? Do they fall into another storybook world?
Let them dream big—then turn those dreams into a comic strip or mini-book.
💖 Final Thought
Art and storytelling go hand in hand—and when kids express what they’ve read visually, it sticks. Books don’t have to stop at the last page. Let imagination spill over into paint, paper, glue, and giggles—and you’ll be building comprehension, creativity, and confidence all at once.
🎁 Bonus for Book-Loving Families!
Want to keep the creative momentum going? We’ve put together a simple, printable Book Art Activity Checklist so your child can track their reading-inspired creations!
Stick it on the fridge, add some crayons, and watch the bookshelf come to life — one project at a time. 🎨📚
